1. NATURE'S GLUTEN-FREE TREATS
One of the best parts of summer is the naturally gluten-free produce that’s on offer. With juicy fruits, crisp vegetables and flavourful herbs, the summer harvest is a joy for people avoiding gluten. Summer foods satisfy taste buds and provide essential nutrients for your health.
2. SUMPTUOUS SALADS
‘Tis the season to let salads shine! Combine a rainbow of vegies, a gluten-free carb and a protein (try chicken, cheese or nuts) for a complete meal in one bowl. Don’t forget a simple dressing (extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and honey is my go-to). The more creative, the better the salad.
3. BARBECUE MEALS
Summer’s warm weather beckons us outdoors for a barbecue of sizzling steaks, fresh seafood, gluten-free sausages or vegan options like tofu, corn on the cob and grilled eggplant. With the gluten-free breads now available, you can even enjoy old favourites like a homemade burger.
4. FROZEN DELIGHTS
Who can resist a cold treat on a scorching summer day? Luckily, there are plenty of gluten-free options to indulge in. Whether with a refreshing scoop of sorbet, a gluten-free ice cream, a rich gelato or a homemade fruit popsicle, you can easily satisfy your gluten-free sweet tooth.
5. GLUTEN-FREE PICNICS
Summer provides the perfect backdrop for picnics in the park or at the beach. Pack a basket filled with fresh fruit, homemade salads and gluten-free snacks. Enjoying a meal alfresco is not only a culinary delight but also a great way to relax and unwind – great for your mental and physical health.
6. FARMERS' MARKETS
Summer is the prime time for farmers’ markets, where you can explore a treasure trove of gluten-free offerings. From artisanal gluten-free baked goods to handmade jams and sauces, to beautiful organic produce, markets are often a haven for foodies living with coeliac disease.
