We love insider tips, so we’ve put together the best cafe recommendations in QLD from the Coeliac Australia community. This is a lot of ground to cover, so this is just the start…
DOVETAIL SOCIAL
Dovetail Social has two branches in Brisbane, at Highgate Hill and Norman Park. You’ll find amazing gluten-free savoury and sweet treats on its menus, some with a Filipino influence – and a 100 per cent gluten-free high tea. The owner and chef at Dovetail Social is committed to gluten-free fare as her husband has coeliac disease, and this venue is proud to share that it doesn’t charge extra for gluten-free options.

But did you know it’s also sought out for its South African specialties? Dine with Joy is a rare find, serving gluten-free versions of bobotie, breyanis, vetkoek and even melktert. MERAK GF
This family owned, entirely gluten-free cafe on the Redlands Coast has gained fans thanks to its all-day breakfast (which starts early at 7am), rice bowls and amazing cakes. Merak GF has made sure there are dairy and egg-free options available too, to create a welcoming place for foodies who need to avoid allergens. And by the way, this isn’t just for the breakfast and lunch crowd: dinner is now on every Friday and Saturday, with a new cocktail and wine list to sweeten the deal. ACCREDITED BY COELIAC AUSTRALIA.

BOTANICA REAL FOOD
We’ve received so many shoutouts about boutique salad bar Botanica Real Food in Brisbane that it’s now high on our to-do list. Alongside the tempting takeaway salads, there’s a strong offering of sweet and savoury baked goods too, with gluten-free, dairy-free and nut-free options. The team here is conscious of cross-contamination, but please note the savoury kitchen does contain gluten and dairy.

NODO
While Nodo has a dedicated following for its gluten-free, ‘baked not fried’ donuts, you’d be missing a trick if you don’t explore the very brunch-friendly dine-in menu. Savoury options vary across its cafes and kiosks across Brisbane and beyond, with dishes that aren’t just gluten free – you’ll find dairy-free and vegan treats too.

THE WITCHIN' KITCHEN
This spot in Sandgate has been described by our insiders as “brilliant”, and it’s no surprise as The Witchin’ Kitchen’s all-day menu is either gluten free or has a gluten-free option. The tempting cakes and donuts, made in-house, are high on the agenda here, alongside a neat little kids’ menu. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for here too, making this one considerate cafe.

MARIE ANITA'S
This organic, gluten-free cafe and artisan bakery is ticking all of our boxes, and it gets better: the menu at Marie Anita’s is also free from cane and refined sugar, and uses local produce. Regular customers are devoted to the artisan bread, but don’t leave without checking out the all-day breakfast and multicultural lunch menu. And by the way, if you dine dairy free, or are vegan or appreciate raw food, Marie Anita’s is for you.

GOOD TO KNOW
There’s so much for you to enjoy when you’re living a gluten-free lifestyle, but for more confidence when you’re dining out, keep in mind that only cafes and restaurants that are Coeliac Australia accredited have undergone training and an onsite audit to validate the gluten-free menu items. For cafes and restaurants without accreditation, it is recommended that you verify that the food offered is indeed gluten free and prepared without contamination before consuming it.
